Seismic risk tends to increase in areas that are more earthquake-prone and vulnerable to damage. Vulnerability refers to the potential impact on people, as well as properties. To enlighten faculty staff and students more about the topic, the Civil Engineering Department conducted a workshop entitled <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">SEISMIC VULNERABILITY AND RISK ASSESSMENT: CASE STUDY OF IRAQ<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, held on November 30th, 2022. The workshop was jointly organised by the Chair of Advanced Structures, Bauhaus University, Weimar &#8211; Germany (BUW), and the Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Tishk International University (TIU). This workshop was part of the joint project (<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Multiscale consequence studies for hazard impact on structures in Iraq<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">) between the two universities, funded by DAAD. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Workshop Introduction:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Ms. Suriya Shaffi<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Workshop 1st Session:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Respected Dr. Lars Abrahamczyk, Professor at Bauhaus University, joined via zoom. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr. Lars is an Assistant Professor for Advanced Structures at Bauhaus-Universit\u00e4t Weimar in Germany and is a lecturer in part of the international master course &#8220;Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering. Dr. Lars attended and organised several field missions into earthquake-stricken regions and worked on several bilateral and international projects in the field of seismic risk assessment of building stocks and individual structures. The session was concluded with a questions and answers session, followed by a break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Workshop 2nd Session: <\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mr. Peshawa Luqman, a PhD student at the Chair of Advanced Structures at Bauhaus-Universit\u00e4t Weimar in Germany. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mr. Peshawa Luqman is a master&#8217;s graduate from the international master course &#8220;Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering&#8221;. His focus in research is on uncertainty quantification of earthquake shake and consequence maps for rapid response risk decisions. Mr. Peshawa Luqman enriched the workshop participants with his knowledge of project survey procedures. The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants, including heads of departments, faculty staff members, research assistants and students, both from TIU Erbil and TIU Sulaymaniyah. On behalf of the Department of Civil Engineering, we extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Lars Abrahamczyk and Mr. Peshawa Luqman for enriching the workshop with their valuable expertise and knowledge; we were truly fortunate to have them join us at this event. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a
