A site visit to construction site was organized on 6th of November 2017. Before anything all safety instruction where gave to the student. Then based on the plan all student gathered at the university around 1:00 pm and then the site has been reached after half an hour journey by bus. After arrival to the site and meeting with the people in charge of guiding us, a short brief about the project was given by Mr. Hawro Khoshnaw (the contractor) to start the tour around the site.<\/p>\n
The project is located in Abu-shahab city, Erbil, and which was a hotel of 13 floors plus two levels of basement. After briefing, students were guide into the floors and then into the basement, during walking students were able to see different types of materials, such as packets of Portland cement or ducts before instillation for air conditioning purpose, elevator, shear wall, ribbed slab, beams, girder, columns, stairs and pipes.<\/p>\n
The main objectives for the site visiting was:<\/p>\n
1- Experiencing and learning more about construction site environment that will face after becoming a quantity surveyor and entering construction industry.<\/p>\n
2- Understanding about importance of safety and notes that should be taken before entering to a construction site for the accidents that may happen there.<\/p>\n
3- Learn about basic process of construction by observing a real example of working space, plus observing and compering topics that taught by lecturers at university.<\/p>\n
4- More understanding about construction technology of buildings and different method of constructing, plus explore and identify different types of building materials.<\/p>\n
5- Giving chance to student for learning about different types of machinery and their uses by observing, such as concrete mixer, crane and bar cutting machine.<\/p>\n
6- Helping students for better understanding of construction drawings and detail.<\/p>\n
7- Asking questions from supervisors and people working at construction site to gain more information and learn from their experiences.<\/p>\n
